Alternative Art Education in West Asheville

Housed in a geodesic dome alongside Canie Creek (a tributary of the French Broad) in the Malvern Hills neighborhood of West Asheville, the Canie Creek Community College exists as a workshop space for art making, environmental restoration, and other community building activities.

About me

Hi, my name is Eric William Carroll. For the past ten years I was a college photography professor. I started the Canie Creek Community College as a way to continue my interest in education while going back to my roots as a full-time artist. I’m originally from Minnesota but am thrilled to call Asheville my home. The Canie Creek Community College is not only a way to support my practice as an artist but also my desire to connect meaningfully with my community and neighbors and to be a positive force connecting the arts, the environment and education.

Workshops

Engage your creativity and curiosity in a historic Asheville location! The Canie Creek Community College is currently offering workshops in Site-Specific Cyanotypes, a hands-on historic photo process that has made a big comeback in recent years. Book a workshop at the dome, read more on the Workshops page, or check with my partner institutions such as the Asheville Print Studio or the North Carolina Arboretum to see if I’m offering any classes there. If you aren’t finding dates that work with your schedule, contact Eric for more availability.
